History

Our building tells a story

The original brick structure, 30 foot by 40 foot, was dedicated on May 4, 1804. The entrance faced east — toward the Court House — with the pulpit on the west wall. In 1827, the frontage was changed to the north when a house and stable were built on the northeast corner of the current property. The galleries were added at that time. In 1878 the alcove for the chancel was added. In 1905 repairs were made “from the foundation to the roof.” In 1974 the building was completely dismantled except for the four walls and completely restored. The only change at that time was to improve the stairways to the balconies.

Today, the 300 members of LPC are proud to continue to worship every week in this place which has been treasured by so many faithful Christians who have gone before us. Standing on the past we continue to reach hopefully into the future.
